Deadlines were the story for Dr. Greg Sawicki, Associate Professor in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering NC State/UNC, with 3 grant submission. Two proposals were submitted to the Department of Defense OPORP Program; “Wearable ultrasound imaging technology for continuous monitoring of muscle dynamics during human locomotion” with Co-Investigators, Omer Oralkan and Hamid Krim from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NC State. A second proposal titled “A modeling and simulation framework for prescription of passive-elastic ankle-foot prostheses” with Co-Investigator Dr. Kate Saul from the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NC State.

The third proposal submitted with collaborator Steve Collins at Carnegie Mellon (ME) was to the Department of Defense NSRDEC Program via US Army Soldier Systems – Natick. The title of this submission is “Optimizing hip, knee and ankle exoskeleton assistance during walking and running at various speeds and loads”.

Dr. Sawicki was also presented a seminar titled “A biologically inspired approach to lower-limb exoskeleton design” at the University of Michigan, Department of Mechanical Engineering seminar series that can be seen here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5Kc_hJFsII
