Associate Professor Matthew Fisher, Director of Graduate Studies in the NC State/UNC Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, was selected as a member of the 2024-25 class of University Faculty Scholars. Matthew joined the Lampe Joint Department in January 2014 as a Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program cluster hire in Translational Regenerative Medicine. His research, as the principal investigator in the Translational Orthopaedic Research Laboratory, aims to better understand the normal structure and function of soft tissues in the musculoskeletal system. He will use this knowledge to develop new therapies, such as regenerative approaches, that will improve patient outcomes following injury. Chancellor Randy Woodson created the University Faculty Scholars Program in 2012, and it is administered by the NC State Provost's Office. Emerging academic leaders who exhibit noteworthy accomplishment are acknowledged and rewarded by the program. About twenty tenured or tenure-track faculty scholars are chosen to receive this prize each year. For the length of their tenure on the NC State faculty, faculty members who are chosen as University Faculty Scholars retain the title.
